Eligibility Criteria
Grants are awarded to organizations with a 501(c)(3) designation in good standing from the Internal Revenue Service. Lutheran Foundation does not provide any funding to individuals.
Applicants must serve clients in our designated geographic area, which includes the following counties in the St. Louis metropolitan area:
- Missouri counties: Franklin, Jefferson, Lincoln, St. Charles, St. Louis City, St. Louis County, and Warren
- Illinois counties: Clinton, Jersey, Madison, Monroe, and St. Clair
Lutheran Foundation funds within the following Strategic Funding Priorities:
- Christian Faith in Action
- Congregation Community Engagement
- Lutheran Schools and Organizations
- Foreign-Born Populations
- Justice-Involved Individuals and Their Families
- Older Adults Maintaining Independence
Technical Assistance
Attend an informational workshop to learn more about Lutheran Foundation and how to apply.
Foundation Staff suggests that potential applicants schedule one-on-one consultations to discuss proposal ideas. These are not required, but are STRONGLY encouraged.

July: Due diligence – site visits and meetings with applicants
End of August: Lutheran Foundation Board meets to review grant requests
September 1: Notification of grant awards

October and November: Pre-application workshops and grant consultations
December 1: Winter grant deadline
January: Due diligence – site visits and meetings with applicants
End of February: Lutheran Foundation Board meets to review grant requests
